Update:Gmail Requires Mobile No for Account Verification

Hi guys..today i was making a gmail account for my friend.and just then i saw something wierd.
google now needs our mobile no to verify and to create an account
Here's the screen shot of what google asks for



For me its a very bad update..unnecessary thing.But this is the latest update in any case
